Phlogiston, Theory of Combustion

from $270.00

Promethean Dreams is an exploration of our fascination with a flame.

The iridescent aluminum prints of fire reflect their environment and seem almost interactive as you move through the space. The colors change in value.

These are not images of a camp fire, or a stove burner. These are images, simply, of fire.

These images were created in an environment that removes outside influences and extraneous details, leaving the fire ball as the center of interest.

Promethean Dreams Artist Statement

Derived from Prometheus, the Titan who stole fire from Mount Olympus and gifted it to humanity.

An exploration of the visual form of a flame. Captured in a moment, frozen in an abstract, each flicker fascinates as it caresses and careens through an invisible world.

It is a slice of primal force that takes on its own life and personality, which causes us to stare in rapture.

To worship at the hearth, as we have done since the beginning.

Some see angels and dragons, while others see dancers and waves.

Both, and neither, are correct as this primal element echos to something deep inside us all.

Fire, the primal element that gives birth to the universe and all that is within it. It is a catalyst for change, both destructive and rebirth.

It is the violent oxidation that changes everything.

About the Art

Each Promethean Dreams work is printed on a highly polished aluminum sheet, using dye sublimation, is signed and numbered on the back and is ready to hang in your gallery, boardroom, or kitchen.

They are available in four different sizes.

12 x 18 is an edition of 75.

16 x 24 is an edition of 50.

30 x 45 is an edition of 25

40 x 60 is an edition of 10.

The prints are durable, travel well and have even been subjected to the harsh realities of being hung near the shampoo station at Kent Newton Salon during a pop up show, without a problem. Try that with a watercolor painting…

Like any piece of art that uses pigments and dyes, they should not be subjected to direct sunlight or harsh chemicals. (But, I have been known to use a light glass cleaner and clean cloth to remove finger prints.)
